Coming to America, directed by John Landis (An American Werewolf in London, Michael Jackson's Thriller), is a great example of late 80's comedies. Starring Eddie Murphy back when he was funny, the film follows Prince Akheem, a wealthy prince from Africa. Prince Akheem is tired of his pampered life and reaches a breaking point when his parents present him with his bride-to-be. So Prince Akheem decides to travel to New York to find a wife that he loves. Akheem and his trustful assistant, Semmi (Arsenio Hall) arrive in Queens and begin their search for love. Akheem discovers the beautiful Lisa (Shari Headley). Unfortunately, Semmi is not comfortable with living the lower-class life and calls on the royal family to help. Will Prince Akheem be allowed to marry the woman he wants? Light hearted, goofy, and hilarious, this film is a treat for all.
